On 16 November, pirates kidnapped five Ghanaians from the cargo ship AM DELTA, 35 nautical miles from the Agbano terminals in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria.
According to initial investigations, six or seven pirates boarded the Ghanaian ship 44 nautical miles from South Brass.
This is the 9th such incident in November alone. Including this case, the number of personnel kidnapped from ships has risen to 115 across 22 incidents in the Gulf of Guinea in 2020. The frequent boarding of ships by armed pirates shows that the Gulf of Guinea is still a hot area for piracy.
As a result of the geographic spread of incidents throughout November, it was assessed as a realistic possibility that the incidents were perpetrated by more than one pirate action group (PAG) or indeed two teams operating as part of the same PAG
