The fifth Our Ocean Conference will take place on 29 and 30 October 2018 in Bali, Indonesia. The international initiative was launched for the first time in 2014 and has the aim of preserving the sustainability of the oceans. So far, the commitments of the Our Ocean Conference are worth about 18 billion USD and they cover 12.4 million square km of marine protected areas. The initiative’s areas of action include climate change, sustainable fisheries, sustainable blue economy, maritime security, marine protected areas and marine pollution.

This year, the conference will put a particular emphasis on the crosscutting themes of sustainable blue economy and maritime security, as recommended by the EU in 2017. It is the first time Our Ocean Conference is held in an Asian country, and this detail specifically recalls the need to respond to the complex and interrelated threats at sea in the region-inter alia in the Indian Ocean. Among the speakers will attend members of the academia, international organisations, foreign ministers and many other relevant international stake-holders.
